About Rootful
This incredibly fun band is how it might sound if Stevie Wonder had spent a year living in Jamaica.
After touring the world as a Worship Leader performing church music, lead singer Art Mayes landed in L.A. seeking a non-religious band to join. His first requirement for a new group: They have to have soul! And at the same time, Rootful had already started winning songwriting awards for their soul-stirring lyrics and music... but they were looking for a gifted singer to help bring their tunes to life.
When Art added his Gospel-inflected voice to Rootful songs, the resulting Soul-Reggae blend sparked an instant"Yes!" response from everyone present: Rhythmically precise drummer Cristian Cornejo and resident Ska expert bassist Howie Cruz (Rootful's answer to renowned Reggae bass-and-drums duo Sly and Robbie), and songwriter-guitarist-animator Enoch Davis-- who also designs and animates Rootful's live onscreen visuals. The immediate next step was to bring on harmony singer Anika Erickson, who contributes flavors of Pop and R&B, and the "Rootful sound" was complete.
Rootful focuses on transforming each show they play into an event that goes beyond a typical “gig.” The band members take pride in creating positive and uplifting experiences for every audience.
With two soulful-voiced vocalists who sing directly from their hearts to yours, and award-winning, original Reggae, Latin, and Funk songs, there is always a lot of love in the room at a Rootful performance.
